Welcome to Wiggles & Giggles Child Care Centre in Wentworthville

At Wiggles and Giggles long day care Centre we believe in providing a safe happy and nurturing environment in which children are able to develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. We acknowledge that the families are children’s first and foremost teachers and that having a strong sense of cultural identity helps children feel a sense of belonging. It is an important part of your child’s early learning to help them connect to their heritage, language and community. Thus, at Wiggles and giggles we ensure this relationship is strengthened through involving our families in the special events and encouraging their participation in our program and curriculum related decisions. We welcome families from all cultures and ethnic backgrounds and respect diversity which in turn supports children to learn to respect the differences in cultures.

Our programme is based upon the Early Years Learning Framework and its practices. We strive to have all our staff up to date in current early childhood practices.

Our educators are trained in the Munch and Move program, a NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years, to implement a fun, play-based approach to supporting healthy eating and physical activity habits in young children. Our programme is made up of both structured (i.e. intentionally taught) physical activity and unstructured, spontaneous activity. In addition, as active role models, the educatorsencourage children to participate in physical activity. The Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are practiced on a daily basis during outdoor playtime.

Acknowledgement Of Country

Here is the land. Here is the sky. Here are my friends and here am I. Wiggles and Giggles would like to acknowledge the Boolbainora clan of the Durag people of the great Darug nation: the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn and play. We’d like to pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging.

Sustainability Action Plan 2022 - 2023

“We can sit back, do nothing and watch our planet be destroyed. Or we can take action, become advocates and start making lifestyle choices which are kinder to people and the planet.
”.

Child Care Centre in Wentworthville

Wiggles and Giggles strive to promote sustainability in all aspects of our services with the intention of supporting children to become socially responsible and develop a sense of respect for the environment as per our Early Years Learning Framework Outcome 2.4.

We also embedded sustainable practices in the operation of our services and support children to become environmentally responsible and show respect for the environment as per the National Quality Standard.

Our philosophy embeds of focus on creating a National Environmental while introducing children to concepts of sustainability where we can facilitate respect and care for the environment.

  • Vegetable patch allocated to each room for each room – Children engage in planting vegetables and herbs relevant to the season. They are encouraged to explore and water the plants.
  • Worm Farm – The children are encouraged to collect their food scraps and feed the worms. They are also supported to understand complex concepts of our eco system through our worm farm. The worm tea which is harvested is used in our Veggie patches.
  • Rearing chickens – At our service we have two pet hens. Coco and Karva were the names given to our chocks by our 2018 graduating batch. The children engage in recycling their food scraps for Coco and Karva, collect the eggs from the hen’s house each morning and further understand the process of composting their feces.
  • Yellow recycle bin and rubbish bins in each room – We encourage the children to use the bins correctly which in turn supports building their knowledge on recycling and waste minimization.
  • Separate bins in the kitchen – to support a service wide approach to sustainability and support children through a role modeled approach.
  • Recycle resources area in each room – We encourage children to bring lids, paper towel rolls, empty plastic bottles and small cardboard boxes from home. At the Centre we are collecting boxes, paper toilet rolls, empty milk bottles and anything that is possible to recycle.
  • Craft activities made with recycle resources – educators follow this practice in the attempt to reduce environmental impact.
  • Group discussions and educational videos about sustainability practices – We engage children in discussions about sustainable practices through our projects and morning and afternoon meetings, such as noticing how the rubbish bin is full, how scraps and left over after meal times, how sustainability practices is at home, etc.
  • Display poster about recycle and non-recycle – These are placed in Dolphin, Seahorse room and in the kitchen.
  • Meal area – We use a worm farm, composting, leftover food container to reduce food waste within the service. We encourage children to place worm farm, fruits scraps and left-over food into separate containers.
  • Save water, Save energy – Staff are role model of energy and water conservation practices within our service. We ensure we turn off lights and aircons when room the is not in use, we empty water play containers into the garden and explain to the children its benefits. We support the children to understand water saving habits (eg. turning taps off, using half flush) and we add mulching to our gardens to reduce water needs.
